Update: the guy in front of me decided to pass on it! Woohoo!

I’ve got a PPI scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at Ravenna Volvo (thanks, RPM!). Let’s hope it doesn’t bring bad news, or at least, not more than a couple grand of bad news.

Original Post: The guy in front of me to buy this manual 2005 V50 T5 AWD (w/ 178k miles) is waffling and might not buy it because he can’t drive manual and is realizing that learning how in Seattle traffic might not be very fun. This checks all of my boxes and then some, so I’m really hoping he decides to bail. Fingers crossed.

Learning to drive stick in a hilly, wet area in a FWD vehicle is an exercise in patience. At least this is AWD and would help a lot. But still.

I’d seen this on CL for some time! I hope you land it and I hope it’s not a basketcase!

Noice. Last time I was shoping for a used car I really wanted one of these, but they were still too expensive... Thats when I ended up with the 2011 Elantra Touring. I ended up qualifying for a really good interest rate from H yundai, and though I hadn’t planned on a new car it ended up being a sound choice given my financial situation. I still kinda want one, but good ones are hard to find these days ( especially in the north east )

Good luck. I’ve been in a S40 a bunch and they’re nice cars. Great seats, naturally, and they seem to hold up decently. My friends minus a transmission (manual FTW) failure hasn’t had too many issues.

Well he’s not wrong. I hated when I had to take my A4 downtown Seattle. I’ve been driving manuals most my life and those Seattle hills are ridiculous with a stick, no matter your skill level.

V50 T5 AWD with a stick? In a non-gray color?

Holy crap that’s a rare vehicle.  Last time I searched for one, there were only 2 in the entire country with a manual, and only one was non-gray (it was white).

Nice! Get a tune from Shark or Elevate and that thing will be as fun as it could have been from the factory.

Yeah, all the manual V50s on Auto Trader right now are FWD.

When I first met my wife she had a 2005 S4 0 T5 AWD with the 6-speed manual. In a nice blue color. That was a fun little car, and if it had been a wagon, we’d probably still have it. I bought my 325 wagon and we sold the Volvo.

Good luck!

Man; a manual AWD Volvo is so freaking rare, especially post 2002. I feel bad for that guy in front of you; I’ve been there wanting to learn but scared to take the jump.

Now that he’s not in front of me any longer, I do hope he finds someone who’ll show him the ropes so he can go get a nice ~$2k beater and take up and down those Seattle hills until he’s a pro with three pedals.

Nice, I would have preferr ed a T5 V50 to the S60 I ended up with, but the only T5 (an auto FWD S40) that came up when I was looking was beat to hell. Hope it passing the PPI with flying colors.

Looks like 2 out of the 3 are AWD, but more surpsingly, they’re all actually manual transmissions.

I do this search at least once a year out of curiousity, and there are always automatics listed as manuals under the search (often referred to as a “Automated manual” in the description).

They’re almost cheap enough for a “What the hell” purchase...  but I really don’t have room for another car and paying $4k for maybe $300 in gas savings a year is not exactly a good financial reason.
